3D Resin Solutions, the creators of the Hero resin have come up with a new product called Fast+ resin. It is a standard fast cure resin, impact resistance and with near engineering-grade tensile strength built-in. It should be a very good all-round resin, however, not as impact resistant as their “HERO – tough” resin but much faster printing and with higher tensile strength. Let’s test this out on 3D printing multiple models!
Fast Cure Resin Packaging
The 3D Resin Solutions Fast+ Resin comes packaged in a branded box which is a pleasant touch and is padded full with bubble wrap to avoid any damage during transit. They make the bottle from rigid plastic with a large screw cap for ease of pouring the resin. The label you see on the bottle is just a temporary placeholder, so not the final label.
3D Resin Solutions Fast+ Resin Performance
So, how does the 3D Resin Solutions Fast+ Resin perform? I will use my Longer Orange 30 to test this resin printing parts for my Delage 15 S8 RC model and also a new model from Creative Geeks MB (Jurassic Park Kitchen Scene)
As part of my Delage 15 S8 RC model, I am upgrading it to use premium parts, however; I wanted to reprint the steering wheel as using an FDM 3D printer; it didn’t look so good! I used the recommended settings for the Fast+ Resin of a 6 seconds exposure time and 60 seconds bottom exposure time. Unfortunately, after printing with these settings, my prints failed with the thin support structures. Not to be defeated, I increased the exposure times slightly to 8 seconds and 65 seconds. Again, the prints failed. 3rd time lucky, I increased my supports to medium but using the same increased exposure time. Success! This came out extremely well considering how fragile it is! Painted with a brown Sharpie!
Jurassic Park Diorama
As part of my further testing for the 3D Resin Solutions Fast+ resin, I am printing a Jurassic Park diorama from Creative Geek MB. This contains some detailed parts, which are perfect for resin 3D printing. The parts I am printing with resin are the raptor heads, some crockery, the boy and the Jurassic Park logo. My first attempt at printing the boy, I filled up my build plate and used thin supports. That’s didn’t work! I am still getting to grips with resin printing, and I think with the larger parts, they have too much strain on the support, which is why I got the result I did!
The legs and shoes may look OK, but they had flat spots on of which I wasn’t happy with. As a result, I reprinted, but using medium supports this time. These came out great!
The first 2 pictures are after cleaning, the final pic after curing (Only 1 shoe came out as I had part of my FEP blocked with cured resin!) The 3D Resin Solutions Fast+ resin shows no signs of breaking up. Especially on the thin parts of the upper body.
I continued with my success with the 3D Resin Solutions Fast+ Resin by printing more for the Jurassic Park model this fast cure resin is starting to amaze me.
Angelic Paladin
Time for something with a bit of detail. I printed this Angelic Paladin from Thingiverse. This came out fantastic! Here are the pictures from after printing. Cleaning and removing supports and finally once cured. I am very pleased with how this has turned out. The pictures don’t really do it justice, unfortunately!
3D Prints On The Flashforge Voxelab Proxima
William Donald just received the Flashforge Voxelab Proxima, and he wanted to try out the 3D Resin Solutions Fast+ Resin on this Mono 3D printer exposure 3.5 seconds. Still to calibrate to see how low I Can get the exposure time.
Big Ork Warboss
I loved the warhammer 40k computer game for the PC and thought I should print this. Big ork warboss miniature from Polarcupz on Thingiverse. Its amazing the detail you get out of this fast cure resin. Everything showed up veins, muscles, all the minor details.
2020 Christmas Ornament We Survived
Its coming up to Christmas and hopefully we beat this covid pandemic im sure we will. When i saw this coronavirus ornament 2020 by Drak on thingiverse. It had to be 3D printed on this fast cure resin. What makes this printable model good is there are a lot of options with text without text and different heads Female, Male, Dog, Cat. Yes, your pets can be included.
Where to buy 3D Resin Solutions
If you want to grab some of the fast cure resin for yourself, head on over to 3D Resin Solutions website where you can pre-order 1KG of Fast+ resin for just $39.95! Shipments will start in November 2020. Currently, only Cool Grey is available.
Conclusion
Despite the few issues I experienced at the start with the fast cure resin, the 3D Resin Solutions Fast+ resin prints great! It feels strong and with no brittleness! Other resins I have used that have thin parts have cracked, but there is no sign of this happening. The Cool Grey colour has a green hue to it, but these parts will be painted, anyway. The details are flawless up close and I am pleased with the end results. It will be interesting to see what other colours they come up with!
