Ender 3 Modding! Printables Edition!

3D Printing Mods…For my 3D Printer

Almost 100% of the people that buy a 3D printer get asked the same question.. “Can you 3D print a 3D printer?”. The simple answer, yes, of course you can! Before we get into that complex of things, let’s start by modifying our existing printer. Yes you guessed it, we’ll be 3D printing modifications for the Ender 3.

For those of you that haven’t had a chance to read my experience 3D printing as a beginner, I suggest you do so.  In that article I wrote about some of the issues I faced while using my Ender 3.  I did some digging around on the Interwebs to find all of the needed/recommended mods for the Ender 3.  The best thing is, they are all free and easy to print!  All of the links will be included with each mod.  Enjoy!

Fixing that Annoying Motor Stut-t-ter!

So the first of my Ender 3 mods I’m going to share with you today is a very quick and simple print. A common problem with the Ender 3 is the Z-Axis motor.  It stutters, skips, and worst of all doesn’t actually raise the Z axis. The problem is the alignment of the motor.  Supavitux made a very simple Ender 3 Z-Motor Spacer as a free download available to all.

All you have to do is download the print, load it into you’re favorite slicer (I’ll be using Cura in this case), edit the settings if your unhappy with them and let it print! Another really quick fix I’d suggest is there are 2 screws located on the X-Axis Motor mount. From factory these are screwed in pretty tight.

I found that after loosening these screws my Ender 3 worked so much better! The photo below marks these screws clearly!  Once you’ve printed your spacers, you have to remove/loosen your Z-Axis motor to slide them underneath and behind.  The grooves on the chassis should hold the spacer nice and snug. This helps to sit the motor at a 90 degree angle, which gives us nice straight prints and stops the motor from stuttering!

FanGuardium Leviosa! (Fan Guard)

Ender 3 Board Fan

This next Ender 3 mod I highly recommend and for me, it is a MUST have!  It is a simple yet very effective print that stops all your printer poops and other things falling into your fan!  It’s a very effective mod that can stop this problem.  The FanGuardium Leviosa was designed by Adamant77.   It’s a simple and effective print that solves a huge problem.

3D Printed Bed Handle

3D Printed bed handle for the Ender 3.

Handle that problem!

The next major issue with the Ender 3 is trying to pull your print bed forward without burning yourself. This Ender 3 mod is a handle that nicely fits with the Ender 3 and uses the front leveling knobs to hold in place.  I recommend this print to anyone especially if they burn themselves a lot (like me). It can be found here on Thingiverse by LarnOn.

Messy Cables

Another great mod I need to recommend is the Ender-3 Display Ribbon Cable Clip by gn-jr. This very quick and simple Ender-3 Mod holds that annoying display ribbon against the frame of the Ender 3. They could even be printed in Black PLA to give them a more subtle appearance.

A Personal Touch

X-Axis Motor Cover

A X-Axis motor cover for the Ender 3.

The final Ender 3 mod I’ll be sharing with you today is a very simple cover for the X-Axis motor designed by DrStreet!  I’d personally like to thank Andrew Delisle for helping modify the cover model and adding the Inov3D logo onto it for me.  This is a very simple design that you can edit to give your printer a personal touch.

Make sure you check out the awesome work by Richard Ledvina and his cool guide to 3D printing with Nylon.
